As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, communities across Kansas and Missouri are hosting fireworks, festivals, concerts, parades and uniquely American experiences that showcase the Heartland at its best.

A few of the many celebrations taking place throughout the summer include:

Stars and Stripes Picnic
Kansas City's official Independence Day celebration takes place at the National WWI Museum and Memorial, featuring food vendors, live entertainment and fireworks against one of the city's most iconic backdrops.
Americana and Ales
Taking place in Downtown Shawnee, Kansas, this one-day event on June 20 pairs a group-stage World Cup match with local craft beer, live entertainment and a celebration of Shawnee's revitalized downtown district.
Blue Springs "Red, White and Blue Springs"
A free community celebration in Blue Springs, Missouri, featuring food vendors, family activities and fireworks over Blue Springs South High School and Young Park.
Excelsior Springs Waterfest
This annual festival transforms the historic Missouri spa town into a weekend destination with live music, shopping, food vendors and one of the region's most unique fireworks backdrops at the Hall of Waters.
Fort Scott Good Ol' Days
One of Kansas' longest-running patriotic celebrations, this festival features a parade, street fair, live music, family activities and a celebration of frontier history in one of the state's most historic communities.
Junction City Freedom Fest
A five-day celebration near Fort Riley, Kansas, featuring live entertainment, fireworks and community events that connect America's military heritage with its 250th birthday.
Kearney Fireworks at Jesse James Park Amphitheater
Enjoy live music followed by a community fireworks display at the same amphitheater that hosted FIFA World Cup 26™ festivities earlier in the summer.
Lawrence Summerfest 2026
One of the region's signature Independence Day celebrations, featuring live music, local food vendors, family activities and a spectacular 400-drone aerial show over Douglas County Fairgrounds.
Leawood Celebration in the Park
A family-friendly July 4 event featuring food trucks, live music and fireworks in one of KC’s most popular suburban communities in Johnson County, Kansas.
Lee's Summit Legacy Blast
